Chris Malenab

After Reno 1868 FC folded at the conclusion of the 2020 season due to Covid-19, in 2021 I signed with Oakland Roots SC as the first assistant. In my season with Oakland Roots SC I helped guide the team to a memorable first season by reaching the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

In 2018, I joined Reno 1868 FC (San Jose Earthquakes’ top affiliate) after spending the previous four season as an assistant at Sacramento Republic FC. Over the course of 3 seasons, we successfully made the playoffs in each of those season. In 2020, along with reaching the playoffs Reno 1868 FC ended the regular season with the best record in the United Soccer League.

During the 2014 inaugural season of the Sacramento Republic FC, I served as an assistant coach to Predrag Radosavljević (Preki) during the club’s championship campaign.

From 2015 to 2017 I then served as video analyst for the Sacramento Republic FC under head coach Paul Buckle.

I started my coaching career serving as technical director at various youth clubs in the greater Sacramento area while coaching high school soccer.

Along with youth coaching experience, I have served as an assistant coach at the college level, at Cosumnes River College (NJCAA), California State University Stanislaus (NCAA D-II) and San Joaquin Delta College (NJCAA).

I also coached in the Fourth Division in the U.S. Soccer as an assistant coach of the Sacramento Knights FC, who played in the MPSL (now NPSL). The 2004 Sacramento Knights, qualified for the Open Cup that year and was the last standing amateur team in the tournament.

I currently hold various coaching certificates including a USSF A-Senior and United Soccer Coaches Director of Coaching Diploma. I received my bachelor’s degree in sociology from California State University Sacramento.
